Morecambe have released their longest-serving player Wayne Curtis, ending a 12-year stay at the club.

The 30-year-old forward joined the Shrimps from Barrow-based Holker Old Boys towards the end of the 1997/98 season, scoring on his debut at Dover.

He has since clocked up more than 300 appearances for the club, helping them win promotion to the Football League.

Midfielder Fraser McLachlan is also leaving, along with Aaron Taylor, Matty Poole, Ben Jackson and Rory Winters.

Morecambe manager Sammy McIlroy told the club website: "It is always difficult telling players that they are being released and people like Wayne Curtis and Fraser McLachlan have been great professionals and servants for Morecambe and, along with the other boys who all have good futures ahead of them, I would like to wish them all the best for their futures.

"But I have a number of people I want to bring in and you have to make difficult decisions at this time of the year."
