Middlesbrough hit by Digard blow

Middlesbrough midfielder Didier Digard has been ruled out for 12 weeks after he suffered injuries to both legs in Saturday's goalless draw against Wigan.

A specialist confirmed Digard, 22, has a partial rupture to the quadriceps muscle in his left leg and a tear to the medial ligament in his right knee.

Digard was hurt in a challenge with former team-mate Lee Cattermole and is unlikely to play again this season.

Referee Mike Dean did not deem Cattermole's challenge to be a foul.

Middlesbrough boss Gareth Southgate also refused to blame former Boro player Cattermole.

"If I was on their side I'd be thinking he timed it just about right, unfortunately Didier turned into him and got caught."

Digard has been a key figure in Boro's midfield since signing from Paris Saint Germain for 4m in July 2008 and his injury has left Southgate with a major headache with his side currently second from bottom of the Premier League.
