Davenport sacked by Macclesfield
Peter Davenport
Peter Davenport believed one head was better than two
Macclesfield have sacked manager Peter Davenport for refusing to work alongside newly-appointed joint manager Gil Prescott.

A club statement said: "Following Peter Davenport's decision not to accept the Board's proposal that he should work with director of football, Gil Prescott, the board has decided to terminate Peter Davenport's contract.

"We have asked Mr Prescott to oversee the first team squad for the away game against Scunthorpe United on Monday 1 January 2001."

"Further announcements on the future management of the club will be made at the appropriate time."

We just feel we are going through a difficult patch
  Chairman Eddie Furlong

Prescott was appointed with the intention of easing pressure on Davenport and reviving the Moss Rose club's ailing fortunes.

But Davenport refused to work with the club's former director of football, ultimately costing him his job.

Earlier in the week, chairman Eddie Furlong said: "Everyone at Moss Rose thinks that results in recent weeks have not reflected performances on the field.

"We just feel we are going through a difficult patch.

"Gil's experience should, we hope, help Peter to identify and address the things that have been coming between us and the results we believe we can achieve."
