New hope for Luton fans
Kenilworth Road
Luton's future remains uncertain
Luton fans hope to take the first step towards seizing control of their club at a meeting with potential investors planned for next week by local MP Margaret Moran.

The Hatters went into administrative receivership on Monday following the chaotic reign of a consortium fronted by John Gurney, who now no longer runs the debt-ridden club.

But Luton South MP Moran, who raised concerns about the Hatters in Parliament, has held tentative talks with a growing number of potential investors who could help hand Luton over to its newly-formed Supporters' Trust.

"I'm convinced it is the only way forward for Luton," Moran said.

"The fans don't have the financial backing yet, but I believe there's an opportunity here to stack up a grouping with the Trust at its heart.

"We would expect serious representation on the board, with significant influence.

"I have spoken to three or four individuals who have financial backing.

"There are other consortia who were interested in the club when Gurney took over, other people who don't want to be identified.

"We want to get them all physically around a table with the supporters and we're hoping that can happen next week," Moran added.

Trust In Luton was set up with Moran's help to give Luton fans a united voice in protest at Gurney's takeover.

But questions remain about the precariousness of Luton's financial situation, and many investors may wait to hear from administrative receiver Barry Ward just how bad things are before pledging their support.

The club remains under a transfer embargo imposed by the Football League, who is witholding television and sponsorship money until Luton can satsify the enquiries of the Football Association's Advisory and Compliance Unit.
