Livi expect Spencer for training
Former Colorado Rapids striker John Spencer
John Spencer left for Colorado Rapids four years ago
Livingston still expect John Spencer to join the club for training this week despite the former Scotland striker not turning up at Almondvale on Monday.

The 34-year-old, formerly of Colorado Rapids, is friends with Livi player-manager Paul Lambert from their Scotland international days.

"He said he is going to come so we can have a look at him in training and I still expect that," said Lambert.

"But he had one or two things to sort out at his end before coming over."

Dunfermline Athletic and Falkirk have rejected a reported interest in signing Spencer as he seeks a return to Scottish football.

The striker, previously of Rangers, Chelsea, QPR and Everton, left Motherwell for Colorado four years ago.

He intends setting up a coaching school in the USA but is seeking to extend his playing career back in Scotland in the meantime.

Livingston could make an offer should Spencer impress while at Almondvale.

But Falkirk player-manager John Hughes told BBC Sport: "He is a player that I admire, but my player budget is spent and I am happy with the strikers I have."

Dunfermline missed out on bringing Stevie Crawford back to East End Park this week, the Scotland striker opting to move to Aberdeen from Dundee United.

But Steven Craig, who was released by Aberdeen this week, appears to top manager Jim Leishman's wanted list.
