Poulsen backs Liverpool in Steven Gerrard absence

Liverpool midfielder Christian Poulsen says the Reds must keep getting results in the absence of Steven Gerrard.

The skipper is out for up to four weeks with a hamstring injury and missed Saturday's 3-0 win over West Ham.

"We hope he will be back quickly," Poulsen told BBC Radio Merseyside. "It's a big miss that the captain is not here as he's a key player.

"But in the time he's away we have to pick up points. Hopefully we can be in a good position when he's back."

After the comfortable win over the Hammers at Anfield, the Reds are within six points of the top four and the Champions League places.

The 30-year-old Danish international believes the side can continue to build on the victory when they travel to White Hart Lane to face Tottenham on Sunday.

"We have to get better game to game and I hope after a long season we can end in a high position," Poulsen continued.

"Hopefully we can start with a good game against Tottenham as well - it will be a big test for the team. We have to play at 110% for the game in London to get some points."
