Lincoln chairman Bob Dorrian hits out at call for EGM

Lincoln City

Lincoln chairman Bob Dorrian has hit out at the calling of an extraordinary general meeting by shareholders unhappy with the running of the club.

The group have also proposed a vote of no confidence in the board as a whole and in its individual directors.

Dorrian told BBC Lincolnshire: "I find it all quite bizarre really.

"It's a massive distraction in terms of man-hours being put in by the staff and members of the board and it's costing money the club can ill afford."

Dorrian added: "Circumstances conspired against us last year. All we had to do was win one of our last 11 games to stay in the Football League and I don't understand how anyone can say the board are to blame for the team not doing that."

Among the shareholders who have called the EGM on Thursday, 21 July is former director Keith Roe.

If there is a majority of the popular vote then we would say the position of the directors involved would be untenable

"I have no intentions of going back on the board or increasing my shareholding - I have no interest in that," he said. "But I'm quite happy to use my shareholding to put my point of view across.

"The main concern of our supporters is that over the last four years we've gone into an increasingly difficult situation with £1m in losses and we're getting to a stage where it could be a critical situation.

"The directors' block vote is bigger than the popular vote - but if there is a majority of the popular vote then we would say the position of the directors involved would be untenable."

The Lincoln City Supporters' Trust, which has a substantial shareholding in the club, said it would consult its members before deciding on its course of action in voting for the resolutions at the EGM.

Trust chairman Chris Ashton said: "This is a crucial period in the history of Lincoln City.

"The trust board is duty-bound to act in the best interests of the supporters' trust. As a consequence we will be taking views from our members prior to making a decision on how to vote."
