Lincoln boss Steve Tilson defends contract pay-offs

Manager Steve Tilson insists Lincoln City are not wasting money by settling players' contracts early, after Albert Jarrett left by mutual consent.

Under Tilson and his predecessor Chris Sutton 13 players have left the club having had their contracts paid up.

But he told BBC Lincolnshire: "We're saving money in the long run. We've not paid anywhere near what Albert's wages would have been to the end of July.

"If players don't want to be here there's no point in them being around."

Jarrett, 26, has played for 10 different clubs during his career.

He made 26 appearances for Lincoln but departed at his own request following a loan spell at League Two rivals Aldershot.

Tilson said: "I got the impression Albert didn't want to come back.

"He had an opportunity, we gave him plenty of games. Albert's got a great left foot and he crosses the ball well but with the position we're in we need people who are going to work hard and graft and maybe Albert's not that type of player."
