Crewe and Tranmere in Jones tussle
Crewe boss Dario Gradi
Crewe boss Dario Gradi could win the race for Jones
Leigh RMI's highly-rated forward Steve Jones could be heading for Crewe rather than Tranmere Rovers.

Crewe manager Dario Gradi has earmarked Jones to replace Mark Rivers who has joined Norwich City.

And Leigh boss Steve Waywell has told BBC Radio Stoke that Crewe appear to be leading the race ahead of Second Division Tranmere.

The 23-year-old striker scored 19 goals in the Nationwide Conference last term.

Waywell said: "I want the deal completed as soon as possible so that I can get on with bringing new players in."
