Ipswich Town boss Paul Jewell out to keep Jimmy Bullard

Bullard has scored three goals in seven games this season

Ipswich Town boss Paul Jewell says he hopes Jimmy Bullard's ambition of remaining at the club can be fulfilled.

The 32-year-old midfielder, on loan from Hull, suggested he would like to stay at Town after netting both goals in Saturday's 2-0 win at Cardiff.

And Jewell told BBC Radio Suffolk: "If something can be done, and it's a big if, we'd like to do it.

"We're ambitious, we want to do well next year, we want to add to the squad and to add Jimmy, if we possibly can."

Bullard's wages could be a sticking point for any potential deal with the former Wigan man earning a reported £45,000 a week at Hull.

And while Bullard had stated two weeks ago "finances aren't everything I'm about", Jewell has warned supporters that money will play a part in any prospective transfer.

"People have to realise not everything's possible financially," he said.

"Jimmy's on a huge contract at Hull, everybody knows that, we'll try and if it fits in with what we're trying to do we'll do it. If it doesn't, we can't.

"He's had a big impact, with the players and supporters.

"He can drive you mad at times as he can lose his shape, he's a bit ill-disciplined sometimes on the pitch.

"But he's been a breath of fresh air, everyone's really taken to him and like myself he's really taken to Ipswich."

Following his goal heroics in the win over Cardiff, Bullard said staying at Ipswich beyond the end of the season would be appealing.

"Why not? Hopefully the clubs can get going but there's a long way to go for me. There's still 12 games to go," he explained.

"I'm really enjoying my football and being at a club that really wants you, which Ipswich have shown.

"I've loved every minute, as soon as I walked in I knew it was a fantastic club and I'm just enjoying my football."
