Hull's Seyi Olofinjana wants to join Nigeria squad late

Olofinjana wants delayed Nigeria start

Hull City midfielder Seyi Olofinjana hopes to persuade the Nigeria Football Federation to allow him to join their African Cup of Nations squad late.

Nigeria has asked all players to be with them from 27 December.

But the 29-year-old wants to play for Hull in their Premier League game against Manchester United on the 27th and FA Cup tie with Wigan on 2 January.

He told BBC Look North: "I'm still trying to get an arrangement with them and try and get delayed."

Olofinjana has just returned from an injury and feels that he needs to play club games to boost his overall fitness levels.

He played in the final 15 minutes in the 0-0 draw against Blackburn Rovers and hopes to get some time on the pitch against the Tigers' next opponents Arsenal.

Club-mate Kamil Zayatte [Guinea] is expected to join Olofinjana in the African Cup of Nations when it begins on 10 January but Kamel Ghilas [Algeria] has missed out on selection.
