Hibernian midfielder Guillaume Beuzelin is likely to miss the rest of the season because of a knee injury.

The Frenchman was hurt against Kilmarnock on Monday and manager Tony Mowbray told BBC Sport: "It looks like the season is finished for Guillaume.

"It's bad news for the team because we're pretty stretched at the moment and we wish him a speedy recovery.

"He will undergo an exploratory operation on Friday but it looks very much like cruciate damage."

The 25-year-old missed almost half of last season with an ankle problem, but has been a regular during this term.

The former Le Havre player has a key creative role in central midfield and has netted five goals this season.

"When you lose a quality player like Guillaume, it's time for the young players to step forward and take the maturing process on further," added Mowbray.

"Hopefully, we will get one or two bodies in over January but I have to prioritise the small amount of money we have available.

"We've got Scott Brown, Kevin Thomson and Stephen Glass who can play central midfield

"And Michael Stewart and Antonio Murray are coming back from injuries, so there are other areas we may have to look at first."
