Hibs secure Marseille win

Hibernian kicked off their pre-season tour of France with a Bastille day victory over Olympic Marseille in Arzon.

Hibs gave new signings Alen Orman, Paco Luna and Derek Townsley their debut as the Easter Road side claimed a 2-1 win in a bad-tempered encounter.

Goals from Orman and teenage striker Gary O'Connor put the Edinburgh side ahead before a late Grant Brebner's own goal reduced their advantage.

However veteran sweeper Franck Sauzee was the man everyone in the 2,500 crowd wanted to see.

The discipline was extremely poor

The 1993 European Cup winner remains a firm favourite with supporters of his former club.

Sauzee almost opened the scoring with a long-range effort in the first half.

Hibs manager Alex McLeish was satisfied with the result but was critical of the overly physical style of the French side.

McLeish said: "The discipline was extremely poor."

"They probably thought they would get away with it because it was a friendly."

"They could have had two or three red cards."

Meanwhile, former Dundee Utd striker Craig Brewster will join up with Hibs at their Lorient training base in a bid to win a deal with the Edinburgh club.
