Hearts have signed Lithuanian defender Nerijus Barasa and are likely to add Bosnia-Herzegovina midfielder Mirsad Beslija next week.

Barasa has signed until the end of the season on loan from FBK Kaunas.

Hearts head coach Graham Rix said: "We're delighted to complete the signing of Nerijus. He worked extremely hard during his trial period."

Beslija's agent Dejan Valjkovic told BBC Sport that the 26-year-old will sign a three-and-a-half-year deal.

Hearts have agreed a fee of 800,000 with Belgian side, Racing Genk for the player, who has 39 international caps .

Beslija has now returned to Belgium to obtain the work permit that is required to conclude the transfer, which should be announced early next week.

Barasa had been with Russian side Kryla Sovetov Samara but was taken by Kaunas, who have links with Hearts owner Vladimir Romanov, and farmed out to Hearts.

Hearts are also close to agreeing a deal with the Liverpool striker Neil Mellor.
