Seven players released in Hartlepool summer overhaul
Clark had been with Pools since October 2004
Hartlepool United boss Chris Turner has released seven players, including long-serving defender Ben Clark, as part of his summer rebuilding plans.
Clark, 27, joined Pools from Sunderland in October 2004, and was part of the 2006-07 League Two promotion-winning side under former boss Danny Wilson.
Three other Wilson signings, Ritchie Jones, Mark Cook and Alan Power, were also allowed to leave Victoria Park.
Academy players Jonny Rowell and Matty Tymon have also left the club.
Meanwhile Pools have taken out the extension options on five of the club's first-team players this summer.
Captain Sam Collins, utility-men Richie Humphries and Antony Sweeney, plus strikers James Brown and Billy Greulich have all been secured for the forthcoming season.
Academy players Billy Blackford, Paul Johnson, Callum Martin and Dylan Purvis have all been offered professional deals.
