Walter Smith welcomes Steve Watson to Goodison Park
Everton have completed the signing of Aston Villa's Steve Watson in a 2.5m deal.

Watson turned down an approach from Middlesbrough to complete a medical and sign a five-year contract at Goodison Park.

The 26-year-old was delighted with the move, and said: "I can say without a doubt this is a top six club and I just think the only way is up for Everton due to the management we have got."

Everton boss Walter Smith was equally delighted and he said: "We're pleased that Steve has decided to join us.

"I think we have had problems settling with our full-back positions over the past two seasons, and hopefully Steve can help us out in that department."

England B international Watson is Smith's second signing of the summer following Friday's capture of Alessandro Pistone from Newcastle and it takes his summer spending to 5.5million.
