Moyes worried by Fellaini fitness

Fellaini has become a cult favourite among the Goodison Park faithful

Everton boss David Moyes has revealed he is concerned about midfielder Marouane Fellaini's fitness, with only 12 days until the start of the season.

The Belgium international was struck down by a virus during the summer, resulting in significant weight loss.

And Moyes has admitted the 21-year-old is still "not right", although he is expected to be fit for the season-opener against Arsenal on 15 August.

"He has not been right all pre-season and is still not right," said Moyes.

"He wasn't a boy that could afford to lose any weight.

"It's noticeable looking at him how thin he has become. It has definitely had an effect on his overall performance.

"It is going to take a little while I feel for him to get his full strength back. I don't think he is there yet.

"When you are the shape and build he is, when you lose weight it's not all that easy to put it back on.

"Since he has come back we've been trying to get him built up but the weight is not going back on at the moment."

Fellaini's introduction to English football last season was an impressive one, with nine goals in 35 matches proving pivotal in the Toffees' charge to fifth spot.
