Derby boss Billy Davies was delighted to end his club's rotten form in the Carling Cup with a win at Stockport.
"That was a very important win for us. That's just one defeat for us in five games so far this season. I'm proud of the lads," he said.
"It's our first win in this competition for a few years and it's always nice to come away from home and win of course.
"It wasn't pretty, but the lads put in a very professional performance. We defended and got a good clean sheet."
