Todd faces Quakers squad rebuild

Darlington's new boss Colin Todd has revealed the extent of the task he faces in rebuilding the squad ahead of next season's League Two campaign.

Todd has just seven first-team players under contract but has reassured supporters there will be a squad ready for the new season.

"I've got goalkeepers to fill in, right across the back line, in midfield and centreforwards," he told BBC Tees.

"Nobody needs to be alarmed, I'll give everything to get the squad assembled."

Todd, 60, will be working to a tight budget at the Arena as the club comes to terms with the impact of cutting the wage bill.

And the former Bradford City and Middlesbrough manager is confident he has the necessary attributes to steer the club forward, with or without financial backing.

"It's a great challenge for me to be able to get a squad together and try to win games of football," he said.

"Other clubs I've been at I've brought in free-transfers and they've gone on to better things.

"The last one at Bradford was Jermaine Johnson who I brought in and he was transferred to Sheffield Wednesday for £300,000.

"If you look at my history I have brought in players for nothing and they've gone on, and I hope that will continue."
