New signing Dean Howell backs Crawley Town promotion

New Crawley Town signing Dean Howell is confident his new club can break into the Football League this season.

The 29-year-old signed a six-month contract last week and believes the ambition at the Broadfield Stadium will help propel Crawley to promotion.

"I only wanted to come to a team that will be fighting at the top, and I believe Crawley will be up there," he told BBC Sussex.

"With the players we've brought in we've got a good chance of promotion."

The left-sided full-back is one of several high profile summer signings at Crawley and Howell cites the high aspirations at the club as the main reason for joining the Reds.

"I wasn't going to drop down to this level and play in a team that was going to be fighting relegation or just making up the numbers in the Conference," Howell said.

"Obviously I wanted to stay in the Football League but with Crawley I've got a good chance of getting back there.

"Luckily there are no big egos here, we're all level headed and if we can work together we should do well," he added.

Crawley start the Blue Square Bet Premier season at home to Grimsby Town on Saturday, 14 August.
