Chelsea denied me time to succeed as manager - Scolari

Scolari 'shocked' by Wilkins' Chelsea exit

By Dan Roan

Coach Luiz Felipe Scolari believes Chelsea did not give him the chance to establish his style and blamed English football's trigger-happy culture.

The Brazilian, who now manages Palmeiras, came to Stamford Bridge in June 2008 but lasted only seven months.

"When they told me to come to Chelsea they said I would be able to change the players," the 62-year-old told the BBC.

"They said I'd be starting the work for next season but the results had more of an influence. There's too much change."

Scolari, who had signed a three-year deal, had made an impressive start but results deteriorated and of his 36 games in charge, 20 were won, five lost and 11 drawn.

When the World Cup-winning coach left in February 2009, the Blues were fourth in the Premier League but remained in the Champions League and FA Cup.

Russia coach Guus Hiddink took up the role on a caretaker basis until the arrival of Italian Carlo Ancelotti from AC Milan in the summer of 2009.

At the time, Scolari's spokesman Acaz Felleger said it was Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich who had run out of patience with the Brazilian coach.

"There's too much change in England. In Brazil we had heard that if you wanted to stay in a job then go to England, but now if you want to stay in the job come to Brazil," Scolari quipped.

The Brazilian, nicknamed "Big Phil", also hinted at communication problems with some of the players.

"There were many things wrong, maybe the language or my management style, because I'm a South American coach. It was different to what the players were used to," he told BBC correspondent Dan Roan.

"I remember Ashley Cole couldn't shoot with his right leg but after a few months he could."
