Chelsea's Nigerian midfielder John Obi Mikel is out of the FA Cup final against Portsmouth but hopes to return for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

The 23-year-old has undergone minor surgery having injured his knee during April's 1-0 home win over Bolton.

"I had an operation on Wednesday and it was successful, I will be hopefully be back in two weeks," he said.

Mikel will also miss Wigan's visit to Stamford Bridge on Sunday as Chelsea look to win the Premier League title.

"The operation is due to an injury suffered when fouled by Bolton's Kevin Davies last month and subsequently led to Mikel's early substitution at Tottenham the following match," added a Chelsea statement.

Nigeria open up their World Cup campaign against Argentina in Group B on 12 June.

They then face Greece on 17 June and South Korea on 22 June.
