Duff set to make Republic match

Damien Duff should overcome a sinus problem
Republic of Ireland winger Damien Duff is set to be fit to face Chile in Wednesday's friendly at Lansdowne Road despite missing training on Sunday.

With the squad in the Algarve for a four-day training camp, manager Steve Staunton confirmed that Duff has had "a bit of sinus trouble".

"It may take a day or two to sort out, but he will be fine to play on Wednesday," said the Republic manager.

Andy O'Brien, Joey O'Brien, Paddy Quinn and Alan Kenny are all definitely out.

Andy O'Brien has a back problem, Joey O'Brien a knee injury and Alan Quinn an ankle complaint.

Clinton Morrison, Steve Finnan and Alan Lee are doubtful, with the trio undertaking only a light training session due to injury niggles.

Despite the injury problems, Staunton has enjoyed the last couple of days in Portugal, designed to enhance team bonding as part of the preparation for the European Championship qualifiers.

"I am really pleased with the set-up here, and the facilities are excellent.

"The boys have trained hard over the last two days, and we have been able to get through quite a lot of work."

Luton Town defender Kevin Foley and Brentford midfielder Jay Tabb are in Portugal after their first call-ups to the senior squad.

The pair travelled to the Algarve after playing in the U21 team's 3-0 victory over Azerbaijan in Thursday's Uefa Championship preliminary round game in Kilkenny.

Foley scored his first international goal in the second leg encounter, which secured a 5-1 aggregate win for the Republic.
