Ranieri staying calm
Claudio Ranieri

Chelsea boss Claudio Ranieri played down talk of them winning the title after another hugely impressive performance at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues romped to a 5-0 win over Newcastle to move back to second in the Premiership and a point behind leaders Arsenal.

After the game Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard admitted for the first time that they are looking for silverware this season.

"It's the first time we can honestly say we really believe we can win something this year - win the title, that is what we are aiming for," the England international said.

But Ranieri continued to play down his team's title hopes.

"I'll believe we can win it when I touch the title - not before," he said.

"The players are young and we need to continue to work hard."

There were five different names on the scoresheet for Chelsea and Ranieri picked out the opener by Glen Johnson and the fourth by Eidur Gudjohnsen as his pick of the bunch.

"Eidur's goal was important because Newcastle were closing the space," he added. "And also because he deserves to play a little bit more - a lot of them do.

"The first is always important and I'm very pleased with Glen. He is a young player and a very, very good player. He can improve a lot but if he continues to improve he will be a first team England player."

The Italian picked an unchanged side for the first time this season - following Tuesday's 4-0 win at Lazio in the Champions League.

He added: "I'm very pleased. I spoke with my players and said 'the result is important but I want to see if we can continue to grow up'.

"I wanted to see how they played after Lazio - and they played very well in Rome. I wanted to continue with them and I'm very happy now.

"I'm pleased - it is not easy when Arsenal continue to win but it is important for us to answer."
