Mutu close to Chelsea switch
Adrian Mutu

Romanian striker Adrian Mutu is believed to have had a medical at Stamford Bridge and looks set to become the newest recruit to Roman Abramovich's Chelsea revolution.

Chelsea have agreed a 15.8m fee for the forward and Mutu has been in London to undergo a medical and discuss a five-year contract.

When finalised his move would take Abramovich's spending to almost 75m.

Mutu revealed he was swayed after talking to his friend and former Blues defender Dan Petrescu.

The 24-year-old Romanian playmaker earlier said: "Dan talked about Chelsea in a good way and I couldn't refuse the offer they made me.

"I asked my club to consider it and I have to thank the officials.

"After practically launching me they have now given me the possibility to go to England.

"From a human point of view it hasn't been an easy choice. But now it's done so let's think of Chelsea."

Parma coach Cesare Prandelli revealed Chelsea's move after the Italian team flew in for a pre-season friendly at Southampton without their star player.

Prandelli said: "He asked to be released and we saw no point in stopping him.

"When you get an offer like this, it's hard to turn down.

"It started two days ago but things were going on yesterday."

The 24-year-old Mutu is regarded as one of the hottest properties in Italian football.

He began his career at Arges Pitesti before moving to Romanian giants Dinamo Bucharest.
