Defiant Pardew vows to fight on

Pardew has struggled to inspire his team this season

Charlton boss Alan Pardew has vowed to fight on after fans called for his head as the club slipped into the relegation zone on Saturday.

Home supporters chanted "Pardew out" during a 3-1 defeat by Barnsley at The Valley and a group protested outside the ground after the final whistle.

But defiant Pardew said: "It's no good crawling under a stone and hiding.

"You have to stand and face criticism if it comes your way. I need to make some big decisions now."

Charlton, who were expected to challenge for promotion this season, found themselves under pressure early on after falling behind after just two minutes and were 3-0 down at half-time.

"Sometimes in a season there are certain benchmarks when you have to make decisions and this is a tough week for me," said Pardew, who dismissed reports of a move for Ipswich midfielder Ivan Campo.

"I have to look within the squad, and maybe get a loan in.

"I've made changes and given everyone a go, so it's probably the time now to stick with what I think is my best side.

"The crowd were frustrated which made it difficult for the younger players, so I need to lean on the more experienced players in the squad to get us out of this situation."

In 15 Championship games this season, Charlton have won only four and lost eight.

They have also seen a proposed takeover from Dubai-based Zabeel Investment Group fall through, further exacerbating their problems.
