Wales goalkeeper Martyn Margetson says he will return as Cardiff City's first choice in the new year.

The 33-year-old has undergone knee surgery and had two discs removed from his back, leaving Tony Warner and Neil Alexander to the Bluebirds No 1 jersey.

"I'm aiming to be back playing by the start of January, then I'll be talking to the manager about my future," Margetson told the South Wales Echo.

"Next year is a big one for me, I'm running out of years."

Margetson's contract at Cardiff runs out in the summer of 2006.
