Cambridge United manager Martin Ling remains defiant

Cambridge United boss Martin Ling has reiterated his desire to see out his three-year contract at the Abbey.

The former Leyton Orient manager was turned on by sections of the U's faithful during their 0-0 draw with local rivals Histon on New Year's Day.

Ling told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "The crowd have been on my back, but it's a pressure I'm more than capable of handling.

"It won't get to me, but what I can't do is let it get to my players."

The U's went on a seven-match unbeaten run in the league after Ling was handed a vote of confidence by the U's board back in October.

However they ended 2010 with a 5-1 defeat to Mansfield and made it two games without a win against Histon.

"Fans can moan and there were a few shouts of 'Ling out', but I won't be going anywhere," Ling said.

"I'm half way through a project here and I won't be walking away from this situation. If the fans think that then they've got another thing coming."

Ling has 18 months to run on his current deal and is working under increasingly tight financial constraints.

Striker Wayne Gray has been offered a new week-by-week deal, but no new faces are set to arrive during the January transfer window.

"We haven't got any money to change things around, so the bodies we've got are the bodies we'll have to go with," Ling said.

"There won't be changes, I've been told there's no money and we have to accept what we're working with."
