Fry slams Cambridge over Rendell

Peterborough United director of football Barry Fry has hit out at Cambridge United over their pursuit of striker Scott Rendell.

The U's made an offer for Rendell on Saturday which was then withdrawn.

Fry told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "My chairman does not like the mickey being taken out of him, so Rendell will come back to Peterborough.

"Rendell won't be staying on loan at Cambridge - that is a one billion percent certainty."

Cambridge made a cash offer for Rendell which was accepted by the Posh chairman Darragh MacAnthony, but the U's subsequently attempted to re-negotiate the deal as a loan.

Rendell joined Posh from Cambridge for a six-figure sum in February, but has fallen out of manager Darren Ferguson's first team plans.

The 22-year-old has been on loan at Cambridge since November, scoring four goals in six matches.

Fry says talks are now over and that Rendell will return to Peterborough when his loan deal ends on 2 January.

"George Rolls phoned me to talk about making Scott Rendell's move permanent and made an offer which my chairman accepted," he said.

"Then George came back to say they didn't want to buy him, they just wanted to extend the loan."

Rendell has failed to settle at London Road, but should be in demand given his goals record at non-league level.

"We've already had three Football League clubs showing an interest and speaking to his agent," Fry said.
