Clarkson wants more Scotland caps

David Clarkson
Clarkson hopes to add to his two caps in Oslo on 12 August

Bristol City striker David Clarkson is hoping his move to the Championship will improve his international career.

The 23-year-old has won two caps for Scotland so far, scoring on his debut against the Czech Republic last year.

He has been included in George Burley's squad for the World Cup qualifier against Norway in Oslo on 12 August.

"I think it's a good place to be as there's quite a few Scottish players in the Championship and it should help me progress," he told BBC Radio Bristol.

"Hopefully it will get me in Scotland squads and get me more time on the pitch."

Clarkson scored 14 goals for Motherwell last season, and now hopes to follow the success of his former team-mate Ross McCormack who moved to Cardiff 12 months ago.

McCormack scored 23 goals in his debut season at Ninian Park, and has been linked with moves to Premier League clubs Portsmouth and Hull this summer.

"If you see somebody you played with coming down to the Championship and doing so well and making a name for themselves, then it stores a bit of belief in you that you can do that too," Clarkson said.
