Wilson offers Matthews hope
Striker Lee Matthews
Matthews thought his Bristol City career was over
Bristol City boss Danny Wilson has told striker Lee Matthews he may have a future at Ashton Gate.

The 25-year-old joined Bristol Rovers on loan last week and thought the decision meant he would not be offered a new deal at the end of the season.

"Lee is being premature if he thinks that. We've let him go to Rovers because we want him to play first-team football," said Wilson.

"With his loan at Darlington he has now put together eight successive games.

"He has not been able to do that for us because of various injuries.

"Whatever our fans might think, he has joined a really good club in Bristol Rovers and I hope he scores lots of goals for them.

"If that happens he will return to us with fitness and confidence fully restored.

"Only after that will a decision be taken on a new contract," Wilson told the club's official website.
