Brighton & Hove Albion captain Gordon Greer believes his side can improve their current performances.

The Seagulls beat Hartlepool 4-1 at Withdean Stadium on Saturday to stay at the top of League One by three points.

The 30-year-old defender told BBC Sussex: "We conceded a sloppy goal and there were periods in the game we could have done better.

"We're all striving for perfection but it's very difficult to get that. We can get even better."

The former Kilmarnock and Swindon player added: "We won 4-1 but it should have been more. I'm really enjoying the challenge we've got here."

Albion now have a break from league action as they prepare to face Premier League side Stoke City in the fifth round of the FA Cup on Saturday.

"Our aim this year is to get promotion but to play in the last 16 of the FA Cup is great," the Scot added.

"It's a test we're really looking forward to. It'll be an honour for me if I lead the team out."
