Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Liam Bridcutt says the side will give their all in the FA Cup this weekend.

The Seagulls, who are top of League One, welcome Championship side Portsmouth to the Withdean Stadium.

Bridcutt told BBC Sussex: "Some people say the [FA] Cup is not as important as the league - we want to win every game and don't want to disappoint anyone.

"Gus Poyet has given us the winning mentality and a never-say-die attitude since he came in as manager."

Bridcutt continued: "The last few games we've been playing well, so I don't see why we can't go into the game and get a result."

The former Chelsea trainee, 21, initially joined on a short-term deal in August, but has agreed an extension until the end of the season.

"It was one of my aims to be a regular player and keep impressing," Bridcutt added.

"If I keep playing well hopefully Gus will keep picking me.

"I've been given a great opportunity to impress. This is a big step in my career and I've got to take it."
