Bradford City boss Taylor rejects Newcastle interest

Bradford City boss Peter Taylor says he rejected the chance to join Alan Pardew at Newcastle United in order to see through his plans at Valley Parade.

Taylor was offered an assistant manager role working under Pardew at St James' Park after a compensation package was agreed for the 58-year-old.

"It's flattering to be offered the position to work alongside Alan Pardew," Taylor told BBC Radio Leeds.

"The time wasn't right now, and I think I've got a job to do at Bradford."

Taylor added: "I wasn't comfortable leaving Bradford earlier than I need to, I know what the game is about, I can easily get the sack in a month's time, I understand that, but I don't really feel I want to leave at this particular time.

"I want to produce a team, I've come here, three months of last season and they've really switched me on.

"I've always had a special feeling about the club, and I've still got that feeling."

Taylor's comments back up the position of City's joint chairman Mark Lawn, who revealed the club had allowed Taylor to speak to the Magpies.

"Newcastle approached us and we subsequently agreed compensation for the remainder of Peter's contract," Lawn told the Yorkshire Post.

"Peter has indicated he wants to stay and we hope that is the end of it."

Taylor was appointed Bradford manager in February 2010 and signed a one-year extension to the deal in April.

Bradford are currently 10th in League Two with 30 points from 22 games.

Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew has been looking for an assistant at St James' Park following his appointment as manager at the club in December, and has been linked with a string of coaches including Malky Mackay at Watford and Leicester City coach Chris Powell.
