Former Middlesbrough boss Bryan Robson

Bradford City have confirmed the appointment of Bryan Robson as their new boss.

The former England captain has been handed his first managerial role since being sacked by Middlesbrough in 2001 and will be assisted by Colin Todd.

Bradford chairman Gordon Gibb and chief executive Julian Rhodes interviewed three candidates for the vacant managerial position last week following Nicky Law's sacking.

Robson was expected to be announced as the club's new boss last week but the two parties were unable to come to an agreement over personal terms.

Robson was lined up to become the coach of the Nigeria national side earlier this month.

Born: Chester-le-Street, 11/01/1957
Playing career: West Brom (1974-1981), Man Utd (1981-1994), Middlesbrough (1994-1998)
England: 90 caps, 26 goals
Managerial career: Middlesbrough (1994-2000)
The Nigeria Football Association offered Robson a six-month contract in October, but the country's Sports Minister Musa Mohammed refused to sanction the move.

Robson took over at Middlesbrough with the club in Division One and guided them into the Premiership and to two cup finals.

The club finished runners-up both times and also suffered relegation before regaining their Premiership status.

Robson and Todd are to meet the players on Monday and will be unveiled at a news conference on Tuesday.

Bradford are second bottom of Division One and Robson had already said his aim for the season will be to avoid relegation.

"Our aim will be quite simple - survival in the First Division," he said earlier. "The club is in relegation trouble but there's a long way to go this season and I'm excited about the challenge."
