Pitman criticism was harsh - Howe

Brett Pitman
Pitman has started 22 League Two games for the Cherries this season

Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe has defended striker Brett Pitman after he was booed by a section of the club's supporters last weekend.

Pitman is the Cherries' top marksman this season with 11 goals in 32 League Two games.

The Channel Islander was frustrated during the home defeat by Notts County as Bournemouth failed to score.

Howe told BBC Radio Solent: "I suppose the problem is that his body language lets everyone know how he is feeling."

He added: "Brett didn't actually play that badly but his body language wasn't the best and the fans picked up on that. Not many players have that characteristic.

"I haven't had a problem with his performances. I think he's done ever so well since I came in and I'm looking for him to kick on again and continue to play well."

Bournemouth face Bury at Gigg Lane on Saturday in the first of seven matches that will determine whether they avoid relegation and stay in the Football League.
