Striker Darren Edwards leaves Bath for Gloucester City

Bath City

Darren Edwards has left Bath City to join Blue Square Bet North side Gloucester until the end the season.

The 30-year-old striker spent four years at Twerton Park and his 25 goals last season helped Bath get promoted to the Blue Square Bet Premier.

"It's a great loss to us as Darren's been our most important striker in the recent history of the club," Bath City boss Adie Britton told BBC Somerset.

"He's been fantastic for us and we wish him well at his new club."

Edwards arrived at Bath City in December 2006 when they were in the Southern League Premier division.

He made over 150 appearances for the club and last season scored Bath's second goal as they saw off Grimsby in the FA Cup second round.

"It's been a very, very difficult decision and he could in truth stay around and play a part," added Britton.

"It was just a question of whether I could give him a run of games that he needed to prove himself."
