Sheridan still quality - Bayliss

Barrow joint-boss Dave Bayliss has paid tribute to managerial colleague Darren Sheridan after he took to the field in Saturday's 1-0 win at Crawley.

Sheridan, 41, was drafted in following suspension to midfielder Robin Hulbert and Bayliss believes the veteran's efforts had an inspirational effect.

"He controlled the game today and he's an example to the rest of the players," he told BBC Radio Cumbria.

"He's a moaner, but he's a winner and the lads look up to him."

Joint-boss Sheridan enjoyed a long career in the Football and Premier Leagues, representing Barnsley, Oldham and Wigan Athletic amongst others, enjoying promotion to the top flight with the Tykes in 1997.

Meanwhile Saturday's victory was Barrow's second in three matches, and extended their unbeaten run of games to the same number after a win against Mansfield and a draw against leaders Oxford United.

Bayliss also revealed his delight at the manner in which former Oldham utility-man Mike Pearson has settled at the heart of the Bluebirds' defence.

"Mike Pearson has come into his own in that position and he's an absolute pleasure to work with," Bayliss said.

"He's come back from an horrific injury and put in the performances just seven or eight months after he's picked up the injury.

"You can put him right-back, left-back, but we've always seen him as a future centre-half and at 21 he plays beyond his years.

"I think he'll go on and have a massive career in football and I'm delighted for him because he's a really quality lad and a great pro, all the time he's been injured he's kept himself fit. He's been immense."
