Tykes snap up Carson
Barnsley have signed former Rangers and Dundee United winger Steve Carson.

Carson signed a short-term deal after training at Oakwell for several weeks and has already played a number of games for the reserves.

The Football League allowed him to join due to Barnsley's injury problems and he could make his debut on Saturday.

"It is unlikely that he will start against Plymouth but he will definitely be on the bench," boss Gudjon Thordarson told Barnsley's website.

"He will take part in the game because I would very much like to see him have an impact because I believe he is quality.

"Steven can work on either flank. He can also play off a striker if he is needed but he is a typical winger.

"He can go with either foot, can deliver, take people on and has pace so we have to wait and see if he can do what he is good at. He will be an important member of our squad."

Meanwhile, former Leeds midfielder Kevin Dixon, 23, has left Barnsley after having his contract terminated by mutual consent.
