Vaclav Drobny

Aston Villa have completed the signing of Czech Republic defender Vaclav Drobny in a season-long loan deal from Racing Club Strasbourg.

Drobny, 23, impressed Villa boss David O'Leary during the club's tour to Sweden, playing in all the matches.

"This is the biggest opportunity of my career," Drobny told the club's official website. "It has always been my dream to play in England."

"I am ready to show O'Leary what I can do and how much I want to play here."

He added: "When I was young I always wanted to play in the Premiership and I hope I can play there next season and then for years to come."

O'Leary signed Martin Laursen earlier in the summer to team up with skipper Olof Mellberg in the heart of the defence and also has Liam Ridgewell in reserve.

Drobny will restore Villa's strength in depth at the back following the departures of Dion Dublin and Ronny Johnsen.
