Arsenal hit by Van Persie injury
Robin van Persie
Arsenal striker Robin van Persie has suffered a broken toe and will not play in Tuesday's Carling Cup semi-final, first leg at Wigan.

However, manager Arsene Wenger is hopeful the Dutchman, who has recently signed a new contract with the Gunners, will not be out for too long.

Van Persie, 22, may also miss Arsenal's home Premiership match against Middlesbrough on Saturday.

But fellow striker Jose Antonio Reyes has shaken off a knock and is fit.

Van Persie has scored nine goals in 23 games for Arsenal his season.

Wenger has been delighted by Van Persie's form this season and believes he can be "as good as Dennis Bergkamp".

And with the older Dutchman set to retire at the end of the season, Van Persie is the future of the Arsenal attack alongside Thierry Henry.

Frenchman Henry pledged his future to the club at the weekend, quashing speculation he would leave for Barcelona at the end of the season.
