Aberdeen   0 - 2   St Johnstone

Highlights - Aberdeen 0-2 St Johnstone

St Johnstone recorded back-to-back Scottish Premier League wins for the first time this season after beating Aberdeen at Pittodrie.

Steven Smith's own goal gave St Johnstone an early lead.

The visitors had the better of the chances throughout the match with Chris Millar and Andy Jackson having efforts saved by Dons keeper Jamie Langfield.

Jamie Adams sealed the Perth side's victory when he powered home a header on the hour mark.

St Johnstone move above Hibernian into eighth place but Derek McInnes's side are no longer able to catch Inverness, who secured the top spot in the bottom half of the table with victory over St Mirren.

The match was preceded by a minute's silence in memory of Eddie Turnbull, the former Aberdeen manager who died last weekend.

St Johnstone got their noses in front when Andy Jackson's cross was diverted into his own net by Smith on eight minutes.

The visitors continued to attack and Peter MacDonald went down in the box after being challenged by Zander Diamond, but their penalty claims fell on deaf ears as referee John McKendrick allowed play to continue.

Aberdeen's defenders were struggling to contain Saints and only a desperate scramble in the penalty area prevented Kevin Moon from finding the net.

Chris Millar was denied by Aberdeen goalkeeper Jamie Langfield and St Johnstone's Murray Davidson sent another shot wide as one-way traffic ensued.

Diamond limped off to be replaced by Clark Robertson as the first half drew to a close.

Jackson had the chance to double St Johnstone's lead shortly after the break when he went clean through on goal but Langfield saved well to keep his side's deficit to a single goal.

But a second goal for Saints was not long in coming as Adams attacked Liam Craig's corner with a strong header that beat Langfield.

One bright moment for the home fans was the return from long-term injury of Fraser Fyvie, who replaced Nick Blackman.

But the midfielder could not get his team going, although fellow substitute Nicky Low did come close to scoring with an effort that took a deflection en route to hitting the top of Peter Enckelman's crossbar.

And St Johnstone comfortably saw out the closing stages to secure a second straight win at Pittodrie.
