Motherwell 1-0 Livingston
Richie Foran (right) opened the scoring
Richie Foran's goal was enough to give Motherwell a win that leaves Livingston at the bottom of the SPL.

Foran had already squandered an excellent chance before Foran finished off from a Phil O'Donnell cross.

Saves from Roddy McKenzie prevented Motherwell extending their lead against the disappointing visitors.

Livi did manage some late pressure, but Well held on to leave Paul Lambert's side sitting at the foot of the league with two points from 10 games.

Livingston were boosted by the return from injury of player-manager Lambert and was joined in midfield by the recalled Paul Tierney, while fit-again Harald Pinxten was in defence.

Midfielders Alan Walker and Richard Brittain dropped to the bench along with defender Emmanuel Dorado.

Livi started the brighter and unchanged Motherwell took 11 minutes to threaten, Scott McDonald toe-poking the ball into the side-netting from a tight angle.

Foran spurned an even better chance when the ball dropped for him on the six-yard line - only for the Irishman to blast high over the bar.

Home captain Phil O'Donnell produced a fine cross into the box and this time Foran made no mistake to put the Steelmen ahead after 21 minutes.

Brian Kerr split the Livi defence with a pass from the centre circle to set David Clarkson through one-on-one with McKenzie, but the Scotland U-21 striker scuffed his shot to allow the Livi goalkeeper to push it wide.

Lambert made two changes at the interval in a bid to spark a revival, replacing himself with Allan Walker and bringing Robert Snodgrass on for Paul Dalglish.

But Motherwell almost increasing their advantage when Kerr unleashed a thunderous shot that McKenzie did well to turn away.

Greg Strong, Snodgrass and Walker flashed headers at the Well goal, but Graeme Smith handled them both efficiently.

Graham Barrett curled a sweet strike with the outside of his right foot marginally wide of Smith's right-hand post.

Strong flashed a header inches wide with Well hearts in mouths, but it was Livi's last chance of an equaliser.
