Collins given Jags job
John Lambie bawls his instructions from the sidelines
Lambie has had three spells in charge of Thistle

Gerry Collins will replace John Lambie as the manager of Partick Thistle at the start of next season.

The 62-year-old Firhill boss will quit the Jags this summer after guiding the club to the Scottish Premier League from the Second Division in successive seasons.

And, as widely expected, Collins, his current assistant, has been given the chance to step up.

Former chief scout Bobby McCulley will be Collins' assistant, while striker Gerry Britton becomes a player-coach under the new set-up.

Collins admitted he was finally pleased his promotion to take over from Lambie was confirmed.

Lambie, who is in his third spell at Firhill, is to relinquish control of team affairs to take on a more wide-ranging role at the club as an associate director.

"It is time to spend time with my wife and family," said Lambie.

"I've been in the game for 40 years which is a very long time.

"People don't know it but I was ready to pack in at the end of last season because my health wasn't great.

"I won't know how I feel about being out of the game until the end of this season obviously.

"But, until then, I have still got a job to do with Partick Thistle."

Lambie began his managerial career at Hamilton Accies before his first move to Thistle in 1988.

The colourful boss yo-yoed between the same clubs before moving to Falkirk for a brief and unhappy spell in 1995.

After a period out of the professional game, Lambie returned to the Jags in 1999.

Collins and Lambie first teamed up in 1985 when the former was a player with Hamilton and the pair have been together ever since.
