Clyde 0-1 Ayr United
On-loan Steven Boyack was the toast of Ayr after his 10th-minute goal put the Somerset Park side back into the promotion pack.

The midfielder was well placed to knock the ball home from close range, after John Bradford's effort had been cleared on the line by the Clyde defence.

Both sides were without a number of first team regulars and Clyde will feel aggrieved to have taken nothing from a match they dominated from the start.

It means that the Cumbernauld club have not won in their last seven outings and, if it was not for their good start to the season and the poor form of the teams below them, they could now be in the thick of the relegation battle.

Glorious chances

Ayr had five first-team players out injured, while Glynn Hurst and John Hughes were both suspended.

Even so, he was still able to put out an experienced side against Clyde, whose French striker, Freddy Bonniface, had recovered from food poisoning.

The home side, although they lost, missed a couple of glorious chances.

In the first half, midfielder Pat Keogh hammered the ball over from six yards.

In the second, Bonniface glanced a header off the post and, despite numerous attempts, the home side could not put the rebound over the line.

Clyde: Halliwell, Ross, Murray, Greer, McLauchlan, Convery, Keogh, C. Aitken, Kane, Bonniface, Mitchell.

Subs: Hay, S. Macauley, Bingham, Cannie, Trialist.

Ayr: Nelson, McKeown, Renwick, Craig, Lovering, Boyack, McGinlay, Teale, H. Robertson, Annand, Bradford.

Subs: Wilson, Scally, McVeigh, Black, Rovde.

Referee: J Fleming.
