Wales Under-21 boss Brian Flynn hailed his side's progress through to the play-offs for next year's Uefa European U21 Championships as "magnificent".

The youngsters beat Romania 3-0 in impressive style in Iasi to win Group 10 and seal a place in next month's play-offs, with the draw on Friday.

"The lads were absolutely magnificent from start to finish," Flynn told BBC Radio Wales Sportstime programme.

"Wales will be proud of them, I'm sure of that, as I am tonight."

Young Wales are bidding to become the first Welsh international soccer team to qualify for a major finals since the great John Charles and his fellow immortals featured in the 1958 World Cup in Sweden.

And they had to beat Romania after losing to them a fortnight ago in Wrexham and losing top spot in the group.

"We were disappointed to lose, but Romania knew that they weren't going to get an easy game over here," said Flynn.

"They knew we would contest it from start to finish and that's what we did.

"In the last two games, we haven't scored, but there's goals in the team and I said to the lads if we scored we would win the game.

"There are some big teams ahead like Germany, Spain, England, Portugal and Croatia.

"They are top, top nations in Europe which we will be coming up against which is mouth-watering for us."
