Liverpool/Chelsea player ratings
Marks out of 10 for Liverpool and Chelsea after the Carling Cup final at the Millennium Stadium.

Jerzy Dudek - 7: The Pole pulled off a magnificent double save to deny Gudjohnsen and Gallas, but might have done better with Chelsea's third.

Steve Finnan - 7: Got forward in the first half but limited to defensive duties after that and he held firm.

Djimi Traore - 6: Did a decent job against Duff, producing a last-ditch tackle, but taken off just after an hour.

Jamie Carragher - 7: Another dependable performance at the heart of Liverpool's defensive rearguard.

Sami Hyypia - 6: Dominated Didier Drogba in the opening 45 minutes but it was a different story after the break.

Steven Gerrard - 6: Unfortunately he will be remembered for his own goal. Unable to inspire a fightback in extra-time.

Dietmar Hamann - 7: Tidy on the ball and helped form a defensive wall that for long periods Chelsea could not break down.

John Arne Riise - 6: His beautifully-struck volley put Liverpool on top but from then on his impact was minimal.

Luis Garcia - 7: Handed the role of supporting Morientes but following the goal he became the first line of defence. Lively when on the ball.

Harry Kewell - 6: Started on the right wing, his best work was helping out in defence before going off injured.

Fernando Morientes - 6: Created opener with fine run and cross. Isolated up front as Liverpool protected their lead, but was quality when on the ball.

Antonio Nunez (replaced Kewell, 57 minutes) - 6: Too often he went running down blind alleys. Got Liverpool's second to ensure a nail-biting finish.

Igor Biscan (replaced Traore, 66 minutes) - 5: Headed over the bar from just a few yards out with the scores level in extra-time.

Milan Baros (replaced Morientes, 74 minutes) - 5: He blew a chance to win the game in the dying stages of normal time. Pace up front but sloppy with the ball.

Petr Cech - 6: Could do nothing about Riise's goal but at fault for the second as he failed to deal with a cross and Nunez headed in.

Paulo Ferreira - 6: Caught out by the early goal but an outstanding tackle denied Gerrard a certain second goal.

William Gallas - 6: No doubting his ability in defence but going forward he does not look comfortable on the left.

John Terry - 6: Did a decent job on Fernando Morientes and proved an inspiration to his side with some surging runs.

Ricardo Carvalho - 6: Comfortable on the ball and anticipates passes so well. Made some timely interceptions.

Claude Makelele - 6: Possibly fortunate not to give away a penalty with a clumsy challenge on Gerrard, but otherwise it was his usual all-action display.

Frank Lampard - 7 (STAR MAN): Whether playing it long or short he rarely wasted a pass and was the driving force of the Chelsea onslaught from half-time.

Jiri Jarosik - 5: A bit surprising that he was named in the starting line-up and after a quiet first half he was withdrawn.

Damien Duff - 6: Not quite at his brilliant best but still a major threat. Missed a chance to win it for Chelsea late in normal time.

Joe Cole - 6: A quiet first half on the left wing but he looked one of Chelsea's better creative players after the interval.

Didier Drogba 6: A bit outnumbered in the first half, his power and presence proved a thorn in Liverpool's side and he got the Blues' second goal.

Eidur Gudjohnsen (Replaced Jarosik, 45 minutes) - 7: Thrown on at half-time and was the inspiration for a much more potent Chelsea attack, including setting up the third goal.

Mateja Kezman (replaced Gallas, 74 minutes) - 6: Had little impact until he found himself in the right place to stab in the decisive third goal.

Glen Johnson (replaced Cole, 81 minutes) - 6: Brought on after their equaliser as Chelsea looked to reshape.
