Linfield end Dungannon Swifts' Irish Cup run thanks to two goals by Peter Thompson at Stangmore Park
Irish Cup holders Linfield progressed to the semi-finals of this year's competition thanks to two goals by leading marksman Peter Thompson.
Timmy Adamson went close with an early header and then Robert Garrett saw his header from a Jim Ervin cross cleared off the line by Dermot McCaffrey.
Thompson bravely forced the ball over the line after some slack defending by the Swifts in the 42nd minute.
Thompson added the second goal with a 78th-minute penalty.
Johnny Montgomery was culpable for both goals, defending poorly for the opener and then fouling Thompson for the spot-kick.
In the first half William Murphy rattled the crossbar with a sidefoot volley and Dungannon's Terry Fitzpatrick was denied an opportunity to shoot when Adamson was pulled up for offside.
After the break Alan Blayney saved well from Ryan Mullan.
