Youth shows the way
By Kevin Ratcliffe
Former Wales and Everton captain

Wales' 0-0 draw to an in-form Norway in Oslo was the first time that this bunch of lads have played together - you can't be disappointed with that.

You give yourself a chance if you don't concede goals
Mark Hughes has scraped around for a team and given the young lads a chance, and they've not let him down.

They've shown real team spirit and got together, he can be proud of them and they can be proud of themselves.

You can't say anyone in that team had a bad game, although we know that some can play better.

Two lads out there - Mark Delaney and Craig Bellamy - haven't played all year, but they were the most experienced guys on the pitch.

You give yourself a chance if you don't concede goals, that's the most important element.

We even created a couple of chances, but the best of them fell to Danny Gabbidon so we were unlucky not to get one.

Sometimes the first cap is the easiest
In the long run, games like that can be more important than home matches against the likes of Brazil and Argentina.

There are a number of older players like Andy Melville and Gary Speed in the first-choice squad who you know can't go on forever, so you have to look at how to replace them.

We had energy and pace in every position throughout the side against Norway, I haven't seen that before.

These players showed what they can do, although you have to say that sometimes the first cap is the easiest.

You have to go out and do it the next 10 times and more.
