Keeper Kiely in Republic return

Republic of Ireland manager Giovanni Trapattoni
Giovanni Trapattoni has named his first Republic of Ireland squad

West Bromwich Albion keeper Dean Kiely is back in the Republic of Ireland set-up after a five-year absence.

He is included in new manager Giovanni Trapattoni's squad for the friendlies against Serbia in Dublin on 24 May and Colombia at Craven Cottage on 29 May.

There are seven uncapped players in the panel - Owen Garvan, Wes Hoolahan, Sean Scannell, Kevin Foley, Darren O'Dea, Damien Delaney and Glenn Whelan.

Steve Finnan, Andy O'Brien and Stephen Ireland have not returned to the fold.

Finnan and O'Brien retired from internationals this year and Ireland has not played since September after he lied over why he withdrew from a squad.

Trapattoni met with the trio and had expressed confidence that they would come back into the reckoning.

Robbie Keane and Richard Dunne will meet up with the squad after the camp.

The Tottenham striker and the Manchester City defender are among five men who will join up with the rest of the 28-man squad in Dublin on their return because of club or personal commitments.

Champions League finalist John O'Shea, and Celtic duo Aiden McGeady and Darren O'Dea will also miss the trip to Portugal, while Cardiff midfielder Stephen MacPhail and Crystal Palace counterpart Sean Scannell will arrive after the FA Cup final and the Coca-Cola Championship play-offs respectively.
